System failures on ECCS and MailHosting services March 4, 2017 [Solved]

An urgent component replacement work was completed at around 17:10 on March 6. All ECCS services came back online at 17:15.

ECCS Staff Email, MailHosting services, and ECCS terminals will be unavailable on March 6 between 16:00 and 17:30 as a component failure has necessitated a replacement work to be carried out

During this replacement work, ECCS-related services such as receiving/sending emails through ECCS Staff Email and MailHosting service, access to the Internet from ECCS terminals, writing/reading files in the home directories, etc. will become unavailable. You may be able to use ECCS terminals, etc. while the replacement work is carried out. However there is a risk that files will not be saved properly during the replacement work. We ask all users not to use ECCS terminals as much as possible until we announce "the replacement work is completed" on this website.

We apologize to all users for any inconvenience this may cause.


As of 9 am on Monday, March 6, ECCS Terminals can be booted up. However users home directories cannot be accessed. Therefore, when you log in to the Mac environment, your desktop will not be displayed, but your desktop will be displayed if you log in to the Windows environment. However any files you create and save on your account will not. We ask users not to use ECCS terminals at this point.

ECCS and Mailhosting services will be temporarily stopped due to the replacement work during daytime today, March 6. We will announce the specific time for the replacement work on this website as soon as it has been confirmed.

We apologize to all users for the inconvenience.


ECCS Staff Email and MailHosting service have been temporarily restored at 16:00 on March 5. However, as a large amount of emails were not delivered during the suspension period, email servers and ECCS operation may be slower than usual.

We ask for your understanding in advance that ECCS services may be temporarily stopped due to the component replacement work during daytime on Monday, March 6.

We are deeply sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you.


As of 10:50 on Sunday, March 5, the following ECCS services are still unavailable.


Internal ECCS servers have not been able to connect to outside servers since 10:50 on March 4. In addition, ECCS-related services such as ECCS Staff Email, MailHosting services, WebDAV Server, and SSH Server have been unavailable since 21:50.

While we have yet to determine the root of the problem, our preliminary examination has pointed to a possible malfunction of the ECCS backbone network switch. We have placed an order for a replacement, and the relevant components are scheduled to arrive after March 6.

As such, we expect ECCS services to be restored after March 6.
