The Educational Campus-wide Computing System (ECCS) is a service that allows students and staff of the University of Tokyo to use computers and networking systems for the purpose of research and education.
There are 1,341 iMacs installed as ECCS terminal computers (terminals) on the Hongo, Komaba and Kashiwa Campuses, and users can select either a Mac OS or Windows environment at start-up.
Various software such as Mathematica (formula manipulation software), MS-Office, Autodesk Inventor* (CAD software) and 3ds max, etc. are installed on each terminal. (*available only under the Windows environment)
The large PC class rooms in the Information Education Building are open to students as self-study room when there are no classes being held, and students can use the terminals for their own study such as to write a report.
In addition to the large PC class rooms, there are rooms set aside for self-study, but these are almost completely occupied most of the time. Student can also browse web sites from their own computers using the wireless LAN stations that are equipped in the study room, which support information wall sockets and UTokyo WiFi (u-tokyo.ac.jp).
