The ITC-LMS learning management system introduced in March 2019 will soon complete its five-year operation period, and a new LMS will be put into operation in March 2024.
(Reference) The next generation of ITC-LMS starts operating from March 2024
The name of the new LMS will be changed from ITC-LMS to UTOL (UTokyo LMS).
In conjunction with this system name change, a new logo design for "UTOL" will be solicited from the university's members.
Call for Proposals
Logo mark for the next Learning Management System (UTOL)
- We are looking for a design that is easy to imagine the new learning management system of the University of Tokyo and that will be familiar to many members of the University.
- When using letters as the design, please use "UTOL".
- Please submit the following two types of logo data
- PNG file (two patterns: 191px × 37px and 382px × 74px)
- Adobe Illustrator (ai) file or SVG file (If you have difficulty submitting a vector file, please submit a PNG file of a size and resolution that will be acceptable for use in manuals, brochures, etc.)
- Please include a description of the logo design (200 words or less).

Usage
The logo will be used mainly within the UTOL website, UTOL manuals and pamphlets, and on-campus websites introducing UTOL.

- January 31, 2024 (Wednesday)
Qualification
- Any UTokyo member (students, faculty, staff, etc.) is eligible to apply. (You must have a valid ECCS CloudMail account.)
- There is no limit to the number of entries.
How to apply(The application period for the logo design has ended.)
- Please apply using the application form (Google Forms). (You will need to log in to your ECCS Cloud Mail account to apply.)
Selection and Awards
- The New Learning Management System Logo Mark Design Selection Committee will select one winning entry in early February 2024.
- The winning entry will receive a cash prize (design fee) of 50,000 yen.
- No award ceremony will be held.
- After the selection, the winning entry will be notified and the information of the winning entry and the entrant will be published in the public relations magazine of the Information Technology Center and on its website, etc. (Names may not be published upon request).
- The results of the selection process will also be announced in the university's publicity.
Notes
- Entries must be original, unpublished works of the applicant both domestically and internationally.(Works utilizing image-generating AI are also not eligible for entry.)
- Submitted data will not be returned.
- All costs associated with the application process must be borne by the applicant.
- If you wish to use the UTokyo mark in your logo design (or any part of it), please check the rules of use and expression and obtain permission to use the mark in advance.

- The copyrights (including the rights stipulated in Articles 27 and 28 of the Copyright Act), trademark rights, and all other rights to the adopted work must be transferred to the University of Tokyo free of charge.
- The applicant of the adopted work shall not exercise the right of identity preservation stipulated in Article 20 of the Copyright Law against any modification of the adopted logo mark.
- In the event that a problem arises regarding the copyrights of the selected works, the applicant shall be responsible for the problem and the use of the selected works may be terminated.
- Applicants' personal information will not be used for any purpose other than the judging and selection process.
